Let's know each other! Flipped interview!

Welcome everyone,

In today's post, I am very excited to introduce a fun and dynamic way of getting to know other people. If you want your students to get to know each other, you can make use of this interactive activity in which your pupils will be able to connect with other classmates through a fun Flipped Interview. Besides getting to know their classmates, this activity will improve their TIC and creative skills along with their ability to work in teams!
To see how it actually works, my partner Álvaro and I made a Flipped Interview ourselves and I can honestly say we had heaps of fun doing it! For the video, we did not use a professional camera just a regular smartphone.

Now, before recording the video we shared a common file on Google Drive. This way we were able to write a short script about what we were going to say and what questions we were going to ask. This application was great because it eased our work as we did not have time to meet up and work on the script due to our already busy schedule. Google Drive Word also enables you to communicate with your team through a chat, therefore, you can easily share opinions and communicate with each other.

After having done that, we agreed on the place we were going to record ourselves. There were not many options available but in the end, we agreed to record the video in an empty classroom.

Finally, the video was recorded and now there was only one last step to be done: posting the video on YouTube and sharing it with everyone. Of course, editing the video is an important part of the activity. I personally edited it with YouTube editor, which was not really hard to use. Besides learning to edit videos, I also learned how to use PowToon, an amazing application for creating awesome presentations and videos. I used this resource for the introduction and ending part of my video. However, I think there is so much more that I could have done with this application.

Anyways, bellow you can watch my Flipped Interview video entitled "Let's meet Álvaro!". You can follow Álvaro's blog O Captain! My Captain!

I cannot end this post without talking about how enriching this experience was for me! I learned so much about how to use so many applications that I never thought I would be able to use. I really think that such an activity will be of so much help for people who are a little shy and are not used to sit in front of a camera. Moreover, this activity is a great tool for using ESL in a meaningful way, in a way that children can have fun interacting with each other and learning from each other. This can be a great experience for children as they will be able to create their own videos and learn to help each other throughout the entire activity.

Go ahead and try it out too! Don't forget to tell me about your own experience using the Flipped Interview activity!

  1. The flipped introduction was absolutely interesting ! To my eye, it was natural and spontaneous, so I like it. In my flipped introduction, I also used Powtoon, and I think it is amazing. I definitely agree on the fact that this is a perfect way to encourage children to use English in a real, meaningful way. Besides, as you put it, this activity can help shy students to express themselves and boost their confidence. All in all, you did an excellent job !
